
Dr Sara Ghaly
Dr Sara Ghaly is a senior psychiatrist with experience working in public mental health, specialising in Consultation–Liaison Psychiatry and complex psychiatric and neuropsychiatric conditions. She completed her medical degree at the University of Newcastle in 2003, undertook specialist training with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), and completed subspecialty training at Westmead Hospital in 2011. She has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist at Westmead Hospital since 2012 and served as Head of Department from 2022.

​With more than 20 years’ experience in Western Sydney’s general hospital setting, Sara has developed broad expertise in managing complex mental health presentations including participating in the Westmead State-Wide Outreach Huntington’s Disease Service since 2012 and specialising in neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. She also works with young people and adults with developmental disability and acquired brain injury through the Vulnerable Person Pathway, supporting individuals with both complex medical and psychological needs.

Sara provides comprehensive psychiatric assessments for GP specialists, other specialists, and health professionals, tailoring individualised care plans including recommended modality of psychotherapy.

Her clinical interests include perinatal and women’s mental health, mood disorders (including bipolar disorder), anxiety disorders, eating disorders, psychotic disorders (including schizophrenia), neuropsychiatric conditions, and developmental disorders. She also offers longer term supportive and psychodynamic psychotherapy. Sara provides care for individuals across the lifespan from mid-adolescence to older adulthood.
