Professor Vijaya Manicavasagar

Dr Vijaya Manicavasagar, BSc, Psych (Hons), MPsychol (Hons), PhD, FCCP, is a Senior Clinical Psychologist and Conjoint Associate Professor School of Psychiatry, UNSW, with over 30 years of experience in clinical practice. Dr Manicavasagar is experienced in treating people with a range of psychological and psychiatric problems using evidence-based therapies and techniques.

In terms of her background, Dr Manicavasagar was responsible for developing the Psychology Clinic at the Black Dog Institute in 2009 and was the Director of that clinic until 2020. She was also the Director of Psychological Services at the Black Dog Institute where she helped develop the clinical services and education programmes for psychologists, general practitioners, school counsellors and business organisations. Dr Manicavasagar is well-published in the fields of panic disorder and other anxiety disorders, unipolar depression and bipolar disorder. She has a special interest in adult separation anxiety disorder and, together with her colleague, Professor Derrick Silove, is considered an expert in this emerging field.
